What is happiness??

Well today I was prompted to think about happiness.  What makes people happy?  Some people never seem to be happy to me, but in their own world they say they are happy.

Happiness can be different for everyone.  What makes one person happy does not necessarily make another person feel the same way.

So what is happiness? Is it thinking of positive things and does negativity make people unhappy? Today I am happy in fact nearly every day I feel a sense of happiness because my life is,generally speaking, made up, of helping people to feel better about themselves and the end result makes me happy because I have been part of making them feel happy.

So is happiness a sense of achievement?  How different do you feel when you are happy to when you are not happy.  How do you define your feelings, or the feelings that you feel when you are happy as apposed to when you are not

For me it is a sense of excitement, a sense of fulfilment, and almost like it is a surreal .  Is that how others feel when they are happy?

I would love some feed back on this subject it is so interesting to see what makes other's happy, and how they determine the feelings they have when they are happy.

Can you be happy when you have negative thoughts or is it only when you are in positive mode that you can feel happy.

I find that happiness sometimes happens when I have been feeling down about something and then next thing something happens unexpectedly to change my mood and that feeling of happiness kicks in and that sense of expectation finds its way into my brain and my body and I am in happy mode.

So can one feel happy and sad at the same time?  I don't know maybe someone out there has a theory or some explanation of what makes one sad and what makes one happy.

Sometimes a sense of achievement makes you happy when you perhaps had been struggling with a particular assignment and feeling frustration then all of a sudden success!!! and you feel happy and elated.

I think sad is perhaps brought on by an event such as death, or illness of someone close to you, or even perhaps, sad about the state of the world, or closure.

When happiness is elation, usually about a positive event, a family gathering, being in a particular place, or something you are looking forward to.  Sometimes the anticipation of an event can make you happier than the exact event when it happens.  Maybe you are disappointed in the outcome of an event you were feeling a great anticipation for and it  did not live up to what you had anticipated it would be.  So then would you feel sad?

Today I feel happy, my Son and his wife are arriving from Australia for Easter and for my 80th birthday.  I was very ho hum!! about my birthday as my whole family will not be able to be here for different circumstances, however now it is close only a few days to go and I am happy that a large portion of my family will be here with me to celebrate and I am grateful for those friends who have put off going away for Easter, to stay back and be here to celebrate this momentous occasion.

I have my health, and a lovely family and lots of lovely friends so why would I not be happy.

So with that note I will close this rambling and hope that someone will give me some ideas on how they feel when they are happy as apposed to being unhappy.  Is it just a state of mind or is it something else.  I don't know do you?
